Boy who lost both legs finds a common bond in his furry BFF who has her own tragic tale

Owen Mahan is a small hero with a big heart who lives in Indiana. He suffered burns over 98% of his body after falling into a scalding hot bath at the age of two. Adopted at three by Susan Mahan, who fosters special needs children, he has since undergone many surgeries and procedures. In 2016, he had to have his legs amputated.
Then Owen met Chi Chi. Born in 2014 in South Korea, Golden Retriever Chi Chi was found in a dumpster with seriously injured legs. It's believed she had been raised on a dog meat farm.

Sweet-natured Chi Chi was adopted by the Howells after her rescue and brought to the United States in 2016. She was fitted with prosthetic limbs and became a service dog. She lives in Arizona.
People from all over the world have heard Owen's story and chipped in to help. One day, Chi Chi's human mom Elizabeth heard that Owen was a fan of Chi Chi, who has her own Facebook page.
Owen was a hero to so many, but Chi Chi was Owen's hero.
Elizabeth managed to set up a visit, partly sponsored by NASCAR driver Tony Stewart. In addition to a NASCAR race, Owen was able to spend the weekend with Chi Chi seeing a hockey game, swimming, playing whiffle ball and fetch, and bonding with Chi Chi.
Owen's mom Susan was grateful to the Howells and Chi Chi. She hoped that Chi Chi's inspiration would help Owen in his own long struggle as he grows up. One thing is for sure – Owen and Chi Chi are truly courageous.
